Dr. Venkatesh Thiruganasambandamoorthy (“Venk”) is a Full Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the School of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Ottawa (uOttawa). He is also a Senior Scientist in Acute Care Research and the Chief Research Information Officer at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, as well as an Emergency Physician at The Ottawa Hospital. He holds a uOttawa Tier 1 Clinical Research Chair in Cardiovascular Emergencies.
Dr. Venk’s internationally recognized research program focuses on cardiovascular emergencies, with a particular emphasis on syncope. His team developed the Canadian Syncope Risk Score (CSRS), a validated clinical tool that enables healthcare professionals to estimate the risk of 30-day serious adverse events in patients presenting to the emergency department with syncope. Building on this work, he recently created the Canadian Syncope Pathway, a care model informed by the CSRS, and successfully completed a pilot study demonstrating its feasibility for broad implementation across healthcare systems.
His additional research interests include emergency department chest pain management, health systems optimization, and the application of machine learning in acute care. His work has contributed to a more evidence based, selective approach to hospitalization, reducing system strain while improving early detection of high risk patients and enhancing overall patient outcomes.
